Manipur: Three UNLF cadres, including two women, arrested in joint raids
Imphal: Manipur Police and central security forces arrested two women and one male cadre of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) from different hideouts during separate operations in two districts on Saturday, officials said on Sunday.
In the first phase of the operation, the joint team arrested two active women cadres of UNLF (Koireng) from the Moirangkampu Sajeb Makha Leikai area under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district.
The arrested individuals are Takhellambam Sanathoi Chanu, also known as Loingakpi and Sanathoi, aged 19, from Tumukhong Awang Leikai, and Kongbrailakpam Rameshori Devi, also known as Langlen, Bemma, or Buchu, aged 19, from Moirangkampu Sajeb Makha Leikai.
Two mobile phones were seized from their possession. The UNLF (Koireng) group is an outlawed outfit.
The joint team also arrested one active extortionist cadre of UNLF (Pambei) from Lamphel Super Market under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district.
The arrested person, Karam Manikanta Singh, also known as Amuba or MK Khuman, aged 46, from Lamboikhongnangkhong, was seized along with two mobile handsets and a wallet containing a PAN card and Rs 1,020.
The UNLF (Pambei) faction is currently engaged in peace talks with the central and state governments, while the UNLF (Koireng) faction continues to demand the restoration of Manipur’s sovereignty.
Manipur merged with the Indian Union in 1949.
