Manipur: Three insurgents arrested in Imphal East; arms, vehicles, cash seized
Imphal: Three insurgents, a woman and two men associated with different Manipur valley-based underground outfits, were arrested during separate operations on Friday, with the recovery of arms, ammunition, communication devices, and Rs 60,300 in cash.
Officials reported on Saturday that the arrestees were involved in extorting money from schools, brick farms, hospitals, and pharmacies in Imphal East areas.
Security forces arrested a woman cadre of the proscribed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), Phanjoubam Thajamanbi Devi (22), also known as Chaibi and Malemnganbi of Andro Kharam Leikai in Imphal East district, from her residence. Three mobile phones and an Aadhaar card were seized from her possession.
Based on information obtained during her preliminary interrogation, security forces conducted the second phase of the operation and arrested two active cadres of the outlawed Revolutionary People's Front, the political wing of the People's Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), from different locations in Imphal East district.
The first was Laishram Kishan Singh (31) of Heirok Part-II, Thoubal district, who was arrested from Khurai Lamlong Bazar under Porompat Police Station. The second was Selheibam Joysana Meitei, also called Joymani and Malei (48) of Andro Uchon Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district, who was arrested in Porompat under Porompat Police Station.
From the two men, authorities seized one .38 pistol loaded with three live rounds in the magazine, two four-wheelers, two mobile phones, along with SIM cards, two wallets, and cash totaling Rs 60,300.
