Manipur: Three G-5 cadres arrested for threatening Sangai Festival performers, extortion

Imphal: Security forces on Thursday arrested three active members of the G-5, an alliance of five underground groups, in connection with threats issued against participants of the Sumang Leela Associations and other performers at the recently concluded Manipur Sangai Festival 2025, the police reported on Friday.

Three communication devices, extorted money, and incriminating documents were recovered during operations conducted at different locations.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Keisham Chingkheihunba Singh (25), Akoijam Univers Meitei alias Lukhoi (27), and Wangkhem Malemnganba Meitei alias Ingo/Ngaionba (38)—all active G-5 members belonging to the outlawed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), the reports stated.

The G-5 is an alliance of five proscribed outfits: the Kangleipak Communist Party, Kanglei Yawol Kanba Lup, People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), PREPAK (Progressive), and the United National Liberation Front (Koireng group).

Police further reported that, in connection with the threats issued to Sangai Festival participants, five cases have been registered across Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Kakching districts. Investigations are underway to identify and take legal action against those involved. So far, three G-5 cadres have been arrested in these cases.

Police assured that strict action will be taken against any attempt to intimidate or disrupt cultural activities and public events in the state.
