Manipur: Sophisticated weapons recovered in Churachandpur
Imphal: In a decisive counter-insurgency operation, security forces launched coordinated raids in vulnerable areas of Churachandpur district in Manipur on Sunday, recovering a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, officials reported on Monday.
Acting on credible intelligence obtained from internal sources and confirmed through detailed assessments, security personnel carried out the operations in G Khonom and Teijang villages, along with adjoining areas under the Churachandpur Police Station in Manipur.
During the raid in G Khonom village, the team recovered eight single-barreled 12-bore rifles, suspected to have been intended for use by anti-national elements.
In the second phase of the operation, conducted in Teijang village and nearby areas, the forces recovered:
i) One 5.56mm INSAS rifle with a magazine
ii) One modified AK-47 rifle with a magazine
iii) One 9mm pistol with a magazine
iv) Two locally made single-barreled rifles
v) Two locally made .22 rifles with a magazine
vi) One locally made mortar
vii) Twenty rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition
Officials stated that this seizure marks a significant step toward neutralising potential threats to peace and public safety in the region.
Authorities have since transferred the recovered weapons to the relevant police stations for further legal proceedings.
