Manipur: Smuggler arrested with 6 kg ganja in Imphal East raid
Imphal: A 48-year-old man was arrested along with contraband ganja in a raid in the eastern part of Manipur on Friday, officials reported on Saturday.
The Manipur police morning bulletin on Saturday reported that Konthoujam Rajen Singh (48), a resident of Huikap Makha Leikai under the Yairipok police station in Imphal East district, was arrested from his residence.
Approximately 6 kilograms of contraband ganja were seized from him.
The arrest and seizure were made based on intelligence reports that some antisocial elements were trying to transport illegal items outside the state through their counterparts.
The illegal items were packed in small polythene bags, which were then concealed in a large white bag.
During the on-the-spot preliminary investigation, it was established that the arrested man had collected the ganja from local illicit cultivators for supplying to his counterparts.
The police report added that he was booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act 2023 and was later handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
