Manipur: Six rescued reptiles released into the wild during Wildlife Week 2025
Imphal: As part of the 71st Wildlife Week observation from October 2 to 8, 2025, with the theme ‘Human-Animal Coexistence,’ People For Animals (PFA), Manipur, rescued six snakes from different locations and released them back into the wilderness on Thursday.
Forest officials and local wildlife groups led the release to ensure the reptiles’ safety and conserve their natural habitat.
The rescued snakes included a Monocled Cobra (Kharou), two Russell's Vipers (Lindu), and one Copper-Headed Trinket (Tanglei Wachetmanbi).
Range Forest Officer Dineshchandra Salam led the release at a safe location, with PFA Manipur’s herpetologist and snake rescuer Hemeshwor Nongthombam and Jenishkumar Thingujam present.
The event took place under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Thoubal, Dr. L. Jeeceelee.
To promote environmental awareness and conservation in the region, the Divisional Forest Officer of Jiribam Forest Division launched the 2025 Wildlife Week Celebration in Jiribam on Thursday.
The initiative aims to foster a sense of responsibility for wildlife conservation among the general public, youth, and school students.
Kangpokpi Forest Division also organized a Bike Rally in collaboration with Eimi Riders Manipur.
The rally started at Hengbung and concluded at the Kangpokpi Forest Division Office Complex, aiming to raise public awareness about forest and wildlife conservation, especially among the younger generation.
Throughout the week-long celebration, organizers will conduct various activities and programs to raise awareness among the residents of Jiribam District.
These activities include village-level awareness programs, loudspeaker campaigns, and nature trail walks for school students.
The Wildlife Week Celebration seeks to promote human-animal coexistence and wildlife conservation by engaging local communities, particularly school students, and fostering a deeper sense of responsibility towards protecting wildlife.
