Manipur: Six IEDs defused near Indo-Myanmar border; three KCP-MFL cadres held
Imphal: Security forces recovered and defused six improvised explosive devices (IEDs) near the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur and arrested three alleged cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party–Meeyamgee Feengnag Lanmee (KCP-MFL) in separate operations over the past 24 hours, officials said on Sunday.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, assisted by a sniffer dog, carried out a search operation near Border Pillars 72 and 73 under Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district.
During the operation, the team recovered one 9mm pistol, one double-barrel gun, six radio sets, two hand grenades and six IEDs. The explosives were destroyed at the site.
In a separate operation near Border Pillar 69, security forces arrested three alleged active cadres of the proscribed KCP-MFL from the general area of Gamphazol village under Molcham police station in Chandel district.
The arrested men were identified as Yumkhaibam Rojit (26) of Khurai Ningthoubung in Imphal East district, Khumanthem Bidyasagar (24) of Sangaithel Karong in Imphal West district, and Hemam Arun Singh (27) of Moirang Mamang Chingjao in Bishnupur district.
The arrested cadres and the seized items were handed over to the respective police stations for further legal proceedings.
Police said security had been intensified across vulnerable areas of the state, with 113 checkpoints (nakas) set up in different districts.
