Imphal: In a new suite of measures, the Village Volunteers (VV) of Tengnoupal District in Manipur appealed to all shopkeepers in Moreh Bordertown to stop the supply of essential items including water to the Meitei state forces from February 1, 2024.

A press statement issued by the Information and Publicity Department Village Volunteers, Tengnoupal District Eastern Zone, has warned the shopkeepers that any individual found supplying goods items to the state forces will face strict punishment.

It further stated, "Moreh has been facing certain challenges recently, particularly about the supply of goods to the state forces. To maintain peace and ensure the safety of all individuals, it has become necessary to implement measures. Therefore, starting from February 2024, we kindly request all shopkeepers operating in the evening bazaar areas of Moreh to close their shops before the withdrawal of state forces from Moreh."

The VV Tengnoupal has been demanding the withdrawal of state forces being deployed to maintain peace in the district.

The state government has deployed additional forces in Moreh after setting on fire several houses belonging to the Meitei community on May 3, 2023.

Over 3000 Meiteis were forced to leave their homesteads at Moreh and they are taking shelter in different camps in valley districts of Manipur.
