Imphal: Indian law enforcers and security agencies destroyed two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in situ and arrested four insurgents linked to splinter insurgent outfits in multiple operations across Manipur on Saturday.

Officials said on Sunday that security forces recovered mortars and two IEDs from the general area of Yangoubung along the Indo-Myanmar border near Border Pillars 72–73 under Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district. The explosives were later destroyed in situ by a bomb disposal team.

In another operation, security forces arrested an active extortion cadre of the outlawed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak–Progressive (PREPAK Pro), identified as Sagolsem Joychandra Singh (47), also known as Bungcha, a resident of Kakwa Makha Nameirakpam Leikai in Imphal West district.

He was arrested from the Kongba Nandeibam Leikai area under Irilbung police station in Imphal East district.

Based on his disclosure, another PREPAK cadre, identified as Seram Manimatum Meetei, also known as Mani (20), a resident of Senjam Khunou Mayai Leikai under Sekmai police station in Imphal West district, was arrested from his residence.

An extortionist associated with the banned Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL) was also apprehended from the Kakching Lamkhai area under Kakching police station in Kakching district. He was later identified as Takhelambam Mohen Singh (31) of Pallel Maning Leikai in Kakching district. A mobile phone was seized from him.

In the final phase of the operation, a self-styled Lieutenant of the banned United National Liberation Front–Koireng (UNLF-K), identified as Sorokhaibam Rosses, also known as Kangleipuba (40), a resident of Chairel Leingangtabi Makha Leikai in Kakching district, was arrested from the Canchipur area under Singjamei police station in Imphal West district.

Officials further reported that four telecommunication devices, including mobile phones, were recovered from the arrested individuals.
