Manipur: Security forces bust two militant camps in Kangpokpi

Imphal: The central security forces and state police, during their continued cordon-and-search operations as part of anti-insurgency campaigns in the vulnerable areas of Kangpokpi district, busted two militant camps and recovered a warlike stock of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and other items on Tuesday.

Officials reported on Wednesday that several military articles were recovered from insurgents’ abandoned camps set up at different strategic locations.

The separate operations were conducted in the northern and western parts of Kangpokpi district, predominantly inhabited by Kuki-Zo tribals.

In the first phase of the operation, the joint team recovered the following items from the Gelbung jungle under the Saikul Police Station in Kangpokpi district:

i. 01 CMG carbine with magazine
ii. 01 .303 rifle
iii. 02 pistols with one magazine each
iv. 09 country-made bolt-action single-barrel guns
v. 01 country-made SBBL
vi. 46 live rounds of ammunition of different calibres
vii. 80 empty cases
viii. 01 locally made grenade
ix. 01 safety fuse
x. 01 detonator
xi. 03 PEK pieces
xii. 04 pumpis
xiii. 01 pumpi stand
xiv. 02 Baofeng handsets
xv. 01 pair of jungle boots
xvi. 01 magazine pouch

In the second phase of the operation, conducted at Songlung village under Kangchup Police Station in Kangpokpi district, the following military items were seized:

i. 01 Heckler & Koch G3 rifle with magazine
ii. 02 bolt-action rifles
iii. 04 pull-mechanism rifles
iv. 01 improvised mortar
v. 02 each of No. 36 hand grenades, arming rings, and detonators
vi. 02 G3 live rounds
vii. 01 handheld radio set
