Imphal: Security forces busted two insurgent camps at sensitive locations in Manipur's Churachandpur district and recovered substantial arms, ammunition, and explosives over the past 38 hours, officials reported on Saturday.

Acting on intelligence, security forces comprising Manipur Police and Assam Rifles conducted a swift operation and recovered illegal items from an abandoned camp in the Khuga Dam area under the Churachandpur police station.

The operation was launched on Friday afternoon, but no arrests were made as the suspected militants managed to flee upon sensing the approaching security personnel.

The recovered items included one locally made .303 rifle, three pistol magazines, one 51 mm mortar smoke bomb, and one stun grenade.

Security forces also seized two Baofeng hand-held wireless sets, two helmets, four improvised explosives, one tactical belt with a magazine and pistol pouch, and one 12-bore cartridge belt.

Additionally, twelve ammunition rounds of different calibers, two ammunition clips, and one improvised Pumpi mortar were recovered.

During the second phase of the operation, security forces recovered several explosive items from the Hengkapkot village forest area in Churachandpur.

The police reported that the items recovered included one improvised mortar with an explosive initiation system, two HE bombs, one smoke grenade, and 27 blank cases of different arms.
