Manipur reigns supreme at 3rd Northeast Games, clinches third consecutive title
Imphal: Manipur continued its dominance in the Northeast sporting scene, clinching the overall championship title for a remarkable third consecutive time at the recently concluded 3rd Northeast Games.
Held in Nagaland from March 18th to 23rd, the Games saw athletes compete across 15 different disciplines, including archery, athletics, and badminton.
Manipur emerged victorious with an impressive medal haul of 130, including 52 gold medals, solidifying their position as a powerhouse in Northeastern sports.
The host state, Nagaland, put up a strong showing, finishing as the first runner-up with a total of 134 medals, including 48 golds. Assam followed closely behind, securing the second runner-up position with 139 medals.
The Games fostered a spirit of healthy competition amongst all eight participating Northeastern states: Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
Manipur has consistently displayed its prowess in these Games. They were crowned champions in the inaugural edition held in Imphal back in 2018 and successfully defended their title in Meghalaya in 2022.
