Manipur records 18,759 traffic violations since 2024; over Rs 5 crore collected
Imphal: Traffic Control Police in Manipur, in its drive to curb motor vehicle offences, issued 18,759 challans and collected Rs 5,19,19,400 in fines from traffic rule violators over the past two years, according to official records.
The Traffic Police issued 15,700 challans and collected Rs 4,47,85,700 from traffic rule violators during the period from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.
Manipur Government Transport Director, Khumanthem Diana (IAS), said that during the period from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, a total of 3,059 cases of traffic violations were recorded, resulting in the collection of Rs 71,33,700 in fines.
From January 5, 2026, to January 11, 2026, Manipur Police issued 77 challans to motor vehicle offenders and collected Rs 74,500 in fines.
Officials reported that common traffic offences in the state included using mobile phones while driving, riding two-wheelers without helmets, underage driving, failure to wear seat belts, driving with loud sound devices, and violating traffic signals.
