Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu spent December 11 in Manipur's Imphal meeting families displaced by months of unrest and assured them that the Union government is committed to restoring stability in their lives.

At Lok Bhavan, she personally conveyed to the affected residents that the government will continue supporting them as they work to rebuild homes, revive livelihoods, and secure their children’s future.

Her office later stated on X that she stressed the administration’s ongoing efforts to ensure peace and long-term prosperity in Manipur, and encouraged the displaced to uphold harmony within their communities.

Her outreach, however, coincided with a wave of resentment in the nearby Kangpokpi district. Multiple Kuki civil society groups declared that they would boycott the President’s welcome event scheduled for Friday in Senapati district.

Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills criticised the official programme, arguing that it prioritised the Naga-majority Senapati headquarters while ignoring the Kuki-Zo population in conflict-hit Kangpokpi, leaving the groups “deeply dissatisfied and disappointed.”
