Manipur: PREPAK shoots man who "incited" wife's death
Imphal: The People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) has claimed responsibility for imparting "punishment" to a man inciting his wife's death in Bishnupur, Manipur.
Laishram Thoiba Singh, a 28-year-old resident of Thanga Khunjem Leikai was shot in the "left buttock" on August 24 at Moirang Khunou Primary School in Bishnupur district.
According to a statement issued by Mangal Khuman, Publicity Officer of PREPAK, Thoiba was punished for allegedly inciting the death of his wife, Ningthoujam (Ningol) Sophia, 25, who was found hanged on February 25, 2016.

The outfit claimed that Thoiba had subjected Sophia to various atrocities and harassment before her death.
A post-mortem report revealed bruises and injury marks on Sophia's head, neck, and back.
Thoiba was arrested by police and imprisoned for around a year.

However, PREPAK claimed that its task forces summoned Thoiba, but he failed to appear.
On August 23, 2024, the outfit took Thoiba into custody, and during interrogation, he allegedly admitted to killing Sophia in collusion with his family members.
The outfit stated that it would always stand firm against violence against women and take necessary actions to ensure justice is served.
