Manipur police seize 18.2 kg opium, arrest two traffickers from Assam

Imphal: Manipur police, with the assistance of central police forces, arrested two alleged traffickers and recovered 18.2 kilograms of opium and impounded a vehicle bound for Assam during a joint operation in Manipur's Senapati district, which shares a border with Nagaland to the north.

The Manipur police morning bulletin, issued on Saturday, reported that in a coordinated early-morning operation, the Senapati District Police, led by its Superintendent of Police, along with the Officer-in-Charge of the Maram police team, the Special Operation Team (SOT), and A/109 CRPF, intercepted a Yodha truck (Regn. No. AS-18-AC-4496) during routine frisking.

During the operation, the joint teams recovered 18.2 kg of suspected opium, cleverly concealed inside the body of the truck.

The successful operation was conducted at the Maram police check post on NH-102 at around 6 am on Friday.

The vehicle was driven by: • Raju Ali, son of Mahtab Ali, Ghopla Kaniha, Kamrup, Assam

And accompanied by: • Aynul Haque, son of Pizir Ali, Bangaon, Kamrup, Assam

The contraband was seized in the presence of a Magistrate and independent witnesses.

Consequently, a regular case has been registered at the relevant police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and further investigation is underway.

The police further reported that the arrested persons and seized items are now in police custody for further legal proceedings.

The bulletin also added that the Senapati Police remains committed to zero tolerance against drugs and continues to intensify efforts to keep the district safe and drug-free.
