Imphal: Manipur Police on Wednesday intercepted two unregistered Gypsy vehicles at Pallel Maning Leikai under Pallel Police Station in Kakching district and arrested four persons, recovering a large consignment of illicit liquor.

Police carried out the operation based on specific intelligence inputs. During the interception, personnel found that the two vehicles, which were not bearing registration number plates, were transporting a substantial quantity of alcoholic beverages illegally.

Police arrested the four occupants on the spot and identified them as Darshung (24), ST Koko (27), Kophamhring (23), and HP Mono (30), all residents of Zaphou Bazar in Chandel district.

During the search, police recovered 219 bottles of 360 ml JO-Ei Soju and 685 cans of 500 ml Chang beer from their possession. Police also seized the two Gypsy vehicles used to transport the liquor.

Officials are interrogating the arrested individuals to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized liquor. Police are also investigating whether the case has links to a wider smuggling network operating in the region.

Manipur Police reiterated that they will continue to intensify checks and surveillance across districts to curb illegal activities, particularly the illicit trade and transportation of liquor.
