Manipur Police hold NATGRID training to enhance counter-terrorism and intelligence operations
Imphal: Manipur Police organised a one-day training programme on the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) at the Auditorium Hall of the New Manipur Police Headquarters in Imphal West district, on Friday.
The programme, conducted with the assistance of the NATGRID team from the Ministry of Home Affairs and as per directions of the Union Home Minister, aimed to familiarise police officers with NATGRID’s features and operational scope. It is designed to enable effective intelligence sharing and data-driven investigations, bolstering India’s counter-terrorism and security capabilities.
NATGRID links various government and private databases, including travel, banking, and telecom records, to allow authorised agencies to track suspects. Around 150 officers from different units participated both physically and via video conferencing.
The NATGRID team, comprising Saurabh Gupta, Advisor (Project NATGRID); Cdr. Jitesh P. Saini, Director, NATGRID; and Anup Kumar, Deputy Secretary, NATGRID, provided technical insights and practical guidance. Senior Manipur Police officers, led by the Director General of Police, attended the programme, which concluded with appreciation for the organisers and participants.
The statement added that NATGRID was created after the 26/11 attacks to prevent intelligence failures by providing a comprehensive, 360-degree view of suspects. It is important to note that NATGRID is a tool for accessing data rather than an intelligence agency itself.
