Manipur Police arrest two drug peddlers, seize 2 kg brown sugar
Imphal: A Special Operation Team of the Manipur police intercepted a vehicle bound for Nagaland and arrested two alleged inter-state drug peddlers along with approximately 2 kilograms of brown sugar, a derivative of heroin, on Tuesday, the police reported on Wednesday.
The arrests and seizure occurred on the National Highway 102 at the Sekmai Pangaltabi area under the Sekmai police station in Imphal West district, adjoining Kangpokpi.
The team, based on intelligence inputs that some anti-socials are trying to smuggle out a drug consignment from Manipur to Nagaland on the National Highway 102, launched the operation.
The team, during the flash operation, arrested two suspected drug peddlers along with four large-sized envelopes containing 2 kilograms of brown sugar worth approximately Rs 2 crores in the current international clandestine drug trade on Tuesday afternoon.
One vehicle used in the smuggling of the contraband items was also recovered during the operation.
The arrested peddlers were later identified as
i) Md. Mustakim (28), a resident of Lilong Lou Manga, Thoubal district, and ii) Umar Khan (30) of Lilong Chingkham Maning, Thoubal district.
A regular case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023, at the Sekmai police station.
The reports added that attempts are being made to arrest other persons involved in the contraband smuggling, and from where the illegal drugs were procured.
