Imphal: In a swift operation, a joint team of the Manipur Police and central security forces arrested an individual linked to an insurgent group, arms smuggling networks, and criminal activities, the police reported on Monday.

The crackdown, carried out over the past 24 hours, forms part of an intensified drive to restore law and order in a state grappling with prolonged unrest and rising crime.

The joint team apprehended an active cadre of the banned outfit Kangleipak Communist Party–People's War Group (KCP-PWG), identified as Huidrom Vikash Singh (25), also known as Sanamacha, a resident of Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district.

He was arrested from the Thongju Waikhom Khongnang area in Canchipur, under the same police station.

Police said he had been involved in extorting money from colleges and the general public in the valley area. One mobile phone and several incriminating documents were seized from his possession.

The arrested individual, along with the recovered items, was handed over to the concerned police station for further legal procedures.

Additionally, the security forces continued search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable locations across multiple districts.

Authorities ensured the movement of 216 vehicles carrying essential goods along NH-37.

Strict security measures have been implemented in all vulnerable locations, and a security convoy is being provided on sensitive stretches to guarantee the safe and unobstructed passage of vehicles.
