Manipur: Partially burnt, decomposed body found in Thoubal
Imphal: A partially burnt body of an unidentified person was found dumped near an irrigation channel along Lamding-Terapur Road under Thoubal police station in Manipur's Imphal district on Tuesday night.
The face of the body was partially charred, and it was partly decomposed, indicating that it had been dumped at the spot for several days, the police said on Wednesday.
Initially, the body appears to be that of a male. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain whether it is a case of murder or suicide.
Residents spotted the body around 8:30 PM on Tuesday and alerted Thoubal police station.
The Scientific Wing team from the Manipur Home Department and local police have collected forensic evidence from the spot.
The body was later deposited at the state government-run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, for post-mortem.
The police said a case has been registered in this connection.
Meanwhile, the police sought the cooperation of the general public in reporting any missing persons to help identify the unclaimed body.
