Manipur: One schoolgirl dead, another injured after van hit; govt announces relief

Imphal: Two young girls cycling to school in Tejpur, Manipur’s Imphal East, were hit by a speeding van on Friday at around 11:10 AM.

One of the girls succumbed to her injuries at the spot, while the other sustained serious injuries.

The driver, along with the vehicle, was apprehended and detained at Lamlai Police Station, and an FIR has been registered.

The state government expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offered condolences to the bereaved family, and stood by the injured student, according to a release by N. Ashok Kumar, Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur.

As an immediate humanitarian measure, the state government announced Rs five lakh in relief to the next of kin of the deceased.
