Manipur: NDRF teams from Nagaland, Arunachal deployed to tackle floods

IMPHAL: In response to the devastating floods in Manipur, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams from Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh are being deployed to support state forces and voluntary organizations in rescue operations.

These efforts aim to assist flood victims currently stranded and marooned in affected areas.

Manipur Water Resources and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Newmai announced that 25 NDRF personnel from Kohima have already reached Imphal, along with 20 NDRF personnel from Arunachal Pradesh.

Additional NDRF teams and boats are en route to bolster the rescue efforts.

"The State Government's priority is to relocate flood victims to safer locations," Minister Awangbow stated. "With most of the Imphal River crossing the danger level, over 2,000 individuals have been evacuated, and others have been moved to relief camps before the water level increased."

Minister Awangbow emphasized the importance of preventing the overflow and breach of the Imphal River at various locations. He called for the active participation of volunteers, local clubs, MLAs, Ministers, local representatives, state forces, paramilitary forces, NDRF, and SDRF to address this critical situation.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the flood-affected areas of Singjamei and its surroundings on Wednesday. He assured that necessary measures are being undertaken to assist affected families and preparations are underway to tackle any eventualities. In a post on social media platform X, the CM urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities to overcome the challenges posed by the floods.
