Guwahati: The Supreme Court has conferred the status of senior advocate on 39 lawyers, including one lawyer from Manipur.

This year, a record 21 women have been designated senior advocates, surpassing the total number of women who had received this status prior to 2024.

Notably, Ngangom Junior from Manipur has become the first lawyer from the state to be accorded this status.

The list also includes BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, Aparna Bhat, Anindita Pujari, India Sawhney, and Kavita Jha, among others.

Under the leadership of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, the Supreme Court has designated 100 lawyers as senior advocates this year alone, with 21 being women.

The designated senior advocates range in age from 39 to 73, with K Parameshwar being the youngest and MC Dhingra being the oldest.
