Imphal: Manipur Member of Parliament Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has appealed to Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure the safe release of two youths allegedly abducted by militants.

The incident occurred on September 27 when three young men from Thoubal district were traveling to New Keithelmanbi for an SSC GD recruitment test.

Only one of the youths was rescued by Assam Rifles, leaving Oinam Thoithoi Singh and Thokchom Thoithoiba Meitei in captivity. Akoijam questioned the partial rescue, stating it "remains a mystery".

The abductors have demanded the release of Mark T Haokip, currently in judicial custody, and the transfer of certain prisoners out of Imphal jails.

Akoijam condemned these demands, labeling them "acts of terrorism" and emphasizing that India must not negotiate with terrorists.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh gad earlier stated the state government would not give in to the militants’ demands and has sought help from the central government to rescue the hostages.

According to reports, Mark Thangmang Haokip is the president of the separatist outfit Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Kukiland.

He is currently lodged at the Sajiwa Jail in Imphal East district.
