Manipur MLA accused of leading forced transport of NFSA rice in Imphal

Imphal: A police complaint has been filed against Sheikh Noorul Hassan, MLA of the Kshetrigao assembly constituency in Manipur, accusing him of leading the illegal transportation of nine truckloads of National Food Security Act (NFSA) rice on Saturday afternoon.

The complaint, filed by H Bupendra Singh, District Supply Officer in Imphal East district, alleges that MLA Hassan and nominees from his constituency forcefully took away the rice meant for March 2024 distribution from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) depot in Sawombung.

The report states that around 4:30 pm on Saturday, a large group led by the MLA stormed the depot, overpowered officials, and loaded approximately 1327.40 quintals of rice onto nine trucks.

The incident occurred amidst rising rice prices in Manipur, with prices reaching around Rs 50 per kg on Sunday.

As of now, there has been no response from MLA Hassan regarding the allegations.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
