Manipur missing students case: Security advisor aims to resolve case by July 20

Imphal: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is making significant progress in the case of two students who went missing during ethnic clashes in Manipur, with a potential resolution by July 20, 2024, said an official.

Following a meeting with family members on Tuesday, Manipur's Security Advisor, Kuldiep Singh, assured them authorities would determine the whereabouts of Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam and Phijam Hemajit Singh by July 20.

The teenagers went missing in July 2023 amidst ethnic conflict between Kuki and Meitei communities.

According to a communique, former Minister AK. Mirabai Devi along with family members of two missing students met Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Monday at Raj Bhavan in Imphal. 

The families submitted a memorandum requesting the return of the students' remains, if deceased, and strong action against the accused currently in CBI custody. Governor Uikey assured them of action for justice and directed DGP to collaborate with the CBI in locating the remains.

The CBI has already filed charges against five accused suspected of abducting and murdering the students. Disturbing images of the students, both alive and deceased, surfaced on social media last year, sparking public outrage.
