Manipur: Minor girl 'abducted' by Assam man rescued from Navi Mumbai
Imphal: Manipur police with the help of its Mumbai counterpart rescued of a missing minor girl from a secluded location in Navi Mumbai on Thursday.
According to police, the girl, who hails from Manipur's Thoubal district had allegedly been abducted.
The accused, initially identified as Laishram Sanathoi Singh, a 25-year-old resident of Jiri Dibong Khunou in Assam Cachar district, was arrested, said a Manipur police official.
However, further investigation revealed his true identity as Abdul Mannaf Choudhury of Jirighat Bagicha Part-I of the Cachar district, the official said.
A team of Manipur police, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Yairipok, coordinated with Mumbai Police to locate and rescue the girl from Jasai, Navi Mumbai, under the jurisdiction of the Uran Police Station.
The official said after obtaining necessary legal permissions, the Manipur police team will return to the state with the rescued girl and the arrested accused.
Both are currently in police custody for further legal proceedings.
