Imphal: In a pre-dawn attack, suspected militants destroyed three bunkers set up by the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) in the strategic villages in Imphal East, Manipur on Monday.

The attacks were allegedly executed in the Sinam and Meikhang villages, Imphal East district.

The bunkers were established to mitigate the conflict between the two communities.

It was reported that the militants opened fire from Mark Hills in Kangpokpi district around 2:20 am, prompting a brief encounter with IRB personnel.

The alleged militants used drones to drop bombs and destroy the bunkers, leading to a heavy exchange of fire.

Additional forces from Imphal East district police headquarters arrived, causing the militants to flee, and leaving a trail of destruction.

Despite the intense exchange of fire, no casualties have been reported.

The villages in Imphal East district, sharing territories with Kangpokpi district, have become a hotspot in the ongoing ethnic violence.
