Manipur: Man arrested with weapons in Imphal East’s operation Tiger Camp

Imphal: A joint team from the central security forces and the Manipur Police apprehended an individual with an illicit firearm and ammunition on Monday, marking a major success against illegal arms possession, the Manipur Police morning bulletin reported on Tuesday.

Based on intelligence from various sources indicating that armed militants were attempting to assert their presence, the joint team conducted a surprise operation at Tiger Camp.

The operation resulted in the capture of Thangjam Thoungamba Meitei, also known as Chingshang (26), a resident of Community Hall, Tiger Camp in Imphal East district.

The arrest was made in Tiger Camp Village under Sagolmang Police Station, Imphal East district.

Based on his on-the-spot interrogation, a .38 pistol with a magazine was recovered from the foothills of Tiger Camp Village, Lai Ching, near Pukhri Achouba, Imphal East District.

A case under Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act has been registered against him, the report stated, adding that further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the weapon and any possible links to criminal networks.
