Manipur: Man arrested with SLR rifle and ammunition in Imphal East

Imphal: A joint team of central security forces and the Manipur Police arrested an individual for alleged unauthorised possession of a firearm during a frisking operation in Imphal East district on Friday, police said on Saturday.

Thingom Sanamacha Meitei (44), a resident of Itham Awang Leikai under Thoubal Dam police station, was arrested during the operation in the Thoubal Dam area.

After questioning him, police searched his house and recovered an SLR rifle with a magazine containing 12 rounds and two radio wireless sets.

A case has been registered under the Arms Act, 1959, of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further legal action is underway.

The report added that security forces continue search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas across districts.

Movement of 236 vehicles carrying essential goods along NH-37 was ensured, with strict security measures and escort convoys deployed in sensitive stretches to ensure safe passage.
