Manipur: Man arrested for uploading woman's obscene photos on social media

Imphal: The Cyber Crime Branch of the Manipur Police has arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly uploading obscene photos of a woman on Facebook, officials said on January 17, 2026.

Leishangthem Amarjeet (32), a resident of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai in Imphal East district, was apprehended from his residence on January 15, 2026, following a complaint filed on December 26, 2025.

According to the complaint, the victim stated that she had met Amarjeet through Facebook in August 2023. She decided to distance herself from him on December 17, 2025, after discovering on his mobile phone that he had been engaging in sexually explicit chats with several women on Facebook Messenger.

In retaliation, Amarjeet allegedly uploaded obscene photos of the victim as his WhatsApp status on December 23, 2025.

During the arrest, five mobile phones were seized. Officials added that preliminary questioning revealed that Amarjeet had recorded intimate videos of the victim during their relationship and later shared them on social media.

Amarjeet was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Imphal West on January 16, 2026, which remanded him in judicial custody until January 19, 2026, to allow further investigations.
