Imphal: A major fire ripped through the Mantripukhri French Colony in Manipur's Imphal East district on Friday, destroying four buildings and causing property losses in the lakhs, Fire Services officials said.

The blaze erupted around 1:10 pm on Friday, engulfing two tin-roofed and wooden houses. Firefighters responded swiftly, deploying five tenders to the scene, informed Ronald Waikhom, Sub Officer of the Manipur Fire Service, Imphal.

The intense fire, fueled by three exploding gas cylinders, destroyed 17 rooms within the wooden structures. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The fire completely razed two tin-roofed wooden houses belonging to Md Iyaisuddin (38) and Md Majibur (45). The inferno also consumed a significant amount of stored paddy crops, furniture, household items, and important documents.

Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately three hours before finally extinguishing it. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A thorough assessment of property losses will be conducted tomorrow, Sub Officer Waikhom added.
