Manipur Lok Adalat settles 177 cases worth Rs 1.82 crore

Imphal: The Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), in collaboration with the High Court and District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs), successfully resolved 177 cases during the second National Lok Adalat of 2024 held on Saturday, May 11.

These cases, encompassing civil matters, compoundable criminal offenses, bank recoveries, motor accident claims, and more, resulted in a total settlement amount of Rs 1,82,83,801.

Around 2,000 pre-litigation and pending cases were listed for the state-wide Lok Adalat. Justice A Bimol Singh, Judge of the High Court of Manipur and Executive Chairman of MASLSA, along with Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, Judge of the High Court, visited the Lok Adalat proceedings at Lamphel Court Complex.

Highlighting the benefits of Lok Adalat, Justice Singh informed the media that the next such events will be held on September 14th and December 14th, 2024.

He said that Lok Adalat decrees are equivalent to those of civil courts and are final, with no further appeals possible. This forum offers a faster and more cost-effective way to settle disputes through mutual agreement.

Justice Singh encouraged parties interested in resolving their cases through Lok Adalat to approach MASLSA or DLSAs for inclusion in upcoming hearings.

The three Lok Adalat benches at Lamphel Court were presided over by N Lanleima (Presiding Officer, MACT), Monalisa Maibam (Special Judge, ND&PS (FTC)), and Dr Laishram Rina Devi (Civil Judge (Sr Division), Imphal East).
