Imphal: The Thanga Heisnam area, situated near Loktak Lake in Manipur, has been plunged into darkness due to landslides triggered by medium to heavy rains over the past two days.

The landslides have damaged an electric transformer, snapped power lines, and blocked roads, leaving villagers without electricity.

According to officials, the electrical transformer installed at Thanga Heisnam village was severely damaged in a landslide that occurred on the night of Tuesday, August 20.

Two electric posts and high-power tension wires were also uprooted, causing a power outage in the area.

The landslides have also affected roads in and around Thanga village, with blockages reported at Ngaram Chingkha, Salam, Oinam, Samukol, and Heisnam. In addition, several houses have been destroyed, and roads have been damaged in Thanga Part I Gram Panchayat and Thanga Part II Gram Panchayat.

One resident, Ningthoujam Mema, suffered damage to their home at Thanga Khunjem Yembipat due to a landslide that caused the road underneath to sink.

In response to the villagers' complaints, Tongbram Robindro, MLA of Thanga Assembly Constituency, led an official team to assess the situation and initiate restoration efforts for power and road connectivity.
