Manipur: Landslides, floods cut off major highways
Imphal: Incessant rainfalls over the past two days have triggered a series of landslides, mudslides, and flash floods across Manipur, resulting in the closure of several key roads, including National Highway 37 (NH-37) connecting Imphal to Silchar via Jiribam.
Multiple locations in the hill districts of Kangpokpi, Tamenglong, and Noney have been affected, with mudslides and landslides reported in villages such as A Sinam, Seijang, and Awangkhul.
The Tipaimuk and Tongjei Maril Roads connecting Bishnupur and Noney districts have also been blocked due to landslides.
The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) has deployed excavators and machinery to clear the debris, but officials warn that it may take several days to restore connectivity.
In the meantime, the transportation of essential goods has been diverted to the NH-102 Imphal-Dimapur road, with 40 vehicles arriving in Imphal on Monday carrying vital supplies.
The Bishnupur district has been particularly hard hit, with flash floods inundating low-lying areas, including villages such as Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur, Thinungei, Khoijuman Khullen, and Nachou.
Normal life remains disrupted as the heavy rainfall continues to affect the region.
