IMPHAL: Two Kuki ministers and seven Kuki MLAs from the Manipur have called for increased security measures for fellow Kuki legislator, Chinlunthang Manlu, following an attack on his residence.
The attack took place at around 12:50 am on Thursday (July 04), when unknown armed miscreants fired shots at Manlu’s home at Zenhang Lamka in Churachandpur district of Manipur.
The Kuki MLAs and ministers issued a statement on Friday (July 05), condemning the attack and urging security authorities to take immediate action to protect C Manlu and prevent further incidents.
The statement emphasized the need for swift justice, calling for the perpetrators to be apprehended and brought to justice.
The attack resulted in damage to parts of the wall and five empty AK-47 cartridges were recovered from the scene.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the miscreants fled under the cover of darkness.
In their statement, the Kuki MLAs and ministers unanimously condemned the acts of the unidentified attackers and stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of all elected representatives.
They appealed to security forces to bolster protection measures for MLA Chinlunthang Manlu, who represents the Singngat assembly constituency in Manipur.
Notably, the Kuki MLAs have boycotted two recent sessions of the Manipur legislative assembly, demanding the creation of a separate administration for the Kuki communities in the state.

Among these representatives, Nemcha Kipgen and Letpao Haokip serve as cabinet ministers in the Manipur government.
The attack on Chinlunthang Manlu’s residence has heightened concerns about the safety of elected officials and the overall security situation in Manipur.
The Kuki ministers and MLAs are urging the Manipur and central authorities to take urgent and decisive action to address these threats and ensure the protection of all legislators.
