Imphal: A joint team of security forces from the central and state governments, operating across different vulnerable locations in Manipur, arrested an insurgent, recovered a cache of firearms, and destroyed 15 acres of poppy cultivation.

Police reported that a cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba) was captured from a rented house located at Langol Housing Complex under Lamphel-PS, Imphal West district, on Tuesday.

Ningthoujam Jiten Singh, also called Yaimaba/Chaiba (45), of Keirenphabi Mamang Leikai, Bishnupur district, was arrested along with a mobile handset and an Aadhaar card.

Following his arrest and seizures, the second phase of operations was conducted at the Nachou Kha Mamang Patton area under Bishnupur-PS, Bishnupur district.

The team recovered a wide range of weapons and equipment, including a 9mm pistol with one magazine, two 9mm improvised pistols with two magazines, two SBBLs, and an improvised sniper with a sling.

Additionally, they seized two 36-hand grenades, five 12-gauge live cartridges, four 9mm live rounds, five .303 live rounds, and three 2-inch mortar rounds. A BUSHNELL 3-9X40EG 6X telescopic sight with cover was also recovered, along with three bullet-proof plates, two bullet-proof plate covers, and two helmets.

The team further recovered one tyre tube and a gunny sack, completing the cache of items seized during the operation.
