Imphal: A 53-year-old India Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawan died by suicide in Manipur’s Imphal on Friday morning, said officials.

The IRB jawan identified as Longjam Nanda was deployed as a house guard for a Manipur High Court judge, A. Guneswor Sharma, at his Yaiskul residence in Imphal West district.

According to officials, other IRB personnel on guard duty heard a gunshot around 9 am and rushed to find Nanda in a pool of blood inside the barrack.

“They discovered Nanda deceased inside the barrack with a gunshot wound to the head,” said an official.

The motive behind Nanda's actions remains unclear. Imphal police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the suicide.

Nanda hailed from Haobam Marak Keisam Leikai in Imphal West district.
