Manipur: Inter-state drug peddler arrested with brown sugar worth Rs 1.96 lakh
Imphal: A Special Operation Team from the Manipur Police and central forces intercepted a vehicle bound for Nagaland and arrested an alleged inter-state drug peddler along with brown sugar, a derivative of heroin, on Wednesday, the police reported on Thursday.
The arrest and seizure took place during frisking and checking at T Khullen Naka Post under the Senapati District Police Station along NH-2 at around 10:20 AM.
The seized drug is estimated to be worth around Rs 1.96 lakhs in the regional clandestine market.
Based on intelligence inputs that some anti-social elements were attempting to smuggle a drug consignment from Manipur to Nagaland on National Highway 102, the Special Operation Team launched the operation.
Combined teams of the Special Operations Team (SOT), D-78 CRPF, and B-109 CRPF arrested Mohammad Warish Khan (26), s/o Mohammad Rahimuddin of Kwakta, Moirang, Bishnupur District, along with five soap cases of brown sugar weighing 196 grams (including the plastic covers).
A vehicle bearing registration number DL-8C-0806 was also impounded, and the accused’s driving license recovered.
A case has been registered at Senapati Police Station for investigation.
The report added that the accused has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023, and remanded to police custody for seven days by the court.
