Manipur: 'Insurgents’ camp busted in Thoubal; weapons & explosives recovered
Imphal: A temporary camp belonging to the suspected cadres of a valley-based underground outfit in Manipur was busted in an operation jointly conducted by central and state forces on Monday, the police reported on Tuesday.
In an intelligence-based combing operation launched at Heirok Part-II, Melei Tampak area under Heirok police station in Thoubal district, the joint team of the Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, BSF, and CRPF busted the camp.
The reports stated that the operation ended with the recovery of a cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, and warlike stores hidden inside the temporary camp.
No arrests were made during the operation, which lasted around three hours on Monday morning.
The recovered items included:
i. 01 (one) 7.62 SLR with magazine
ii. 01 (one) sniper rifle with magazine
iii. 01 (one) double-barreled rifle
iv. 01 (one) single-barreled rifle
v. 03 (three) magazines of different rifles
vi. 03 (three) No. 36 HE grenades
vii. 100 (one hundred) rounds of .303 ammunition
viii. 01 (one) Motorola handset
ix. 04 (four) BAOFENG handsets with charger
x. 01 (one) double-barreled cover
The report added that the confiscated items were later deposited at the concerned police station for further legal proceedings.
