Imphal: Manipur Police on Saturday apprehended two individuals suspected of vehicle theft and extortion activities in the Imphal area, officials said.

A police report issued on Sunday morning details the arrest and recovery of a stolen car, firearms, and ammunition.

Acting on intelligence reports suggesting the presence of vehicle lifters in the Sangaiporou area of Imphal West district, a team from Singjamei Police Station conducted a search operation on Saturday at around 8:00 AM.

The operation led to the arrest of two suspects, Yambem Gulshan (27) and Philem Jenan Singh (32), both residents of Sangaiporou. They were allegedly involved in the theft of a vehicle, which was recovered during the operation. The vehicle lacked a registration number.

Furthermore, the police seized one .45 caliber pistol with 19 live rounds and two magazines and 9 mm pistol with 13 live rounds and one magazine from the suspects' possession.

The arrested individuals, along with the impounded car and seized weapons, are currently in police custody at the concerned police station. Legal proceedings are underway, and a case has been registered against the suspects.
