Imphal: Manipur government plans to upgrade the District Hospital in Bishnupur from a 50-bed facility to a 200-bed hospital, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said during an inspection visit on Tuesday.

Konthoujam visited the hospital to review the proposed expansion project and assess infrastructure requirements for the upgradation.

Officials briefed the minister on measures required for the expansion and development of the facility.

During the visit, Konthoujam said the government was working to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the district and improve access to medical services.

He said the proposed expansion aligns with the Centre’s “One District, One Medical College” initiative.

The minister was accompanied by Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam, senior officials from various departments, Superintendent of Police Bishnupur, and representatives of civil society organisations.

Konthoujam urged officials concerned to ensure timely implementation of the project.
