Manipur: Heatwave grips Jiribam, records year's hottest day at 43°C

IMPHAL: Jiribam district in Manipur, which borders Assam’s Cachar district, experienced its hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures soaring to a blistering 43°C on Friday.

This information was confirmed by the Director of Environment and Climate Change.

The heatwave's intensity, which began in the adjoining district of Noney, has shown no signs of abating.

On May 22, Noney district of Manipur recorded a temperature of 40°C, marking the second hottest day in Manipur this year.

The extreme temperatures have severely disrupted daily life in both Jiribam and Noney, particularly in their respective headquarters.

In response to the sweltering conditions, residents have been staying indoors to avoid sunstroke and other heat-related health issues.

Local shopkeepers in Jiribam district headquarters reported a noticeable decline in the number of customers visiting the markets.

The heatwave has raised concerns among vendors about the spoilage of perishable goods, particularly green vegetables.

Even ice cream sellers in Jiribam bazaar noted a significant drop in customers as many people opted to stay inside to escape the oppressive heat.
