Imphal: Manipur government has committed to providing comprehensive assistance to those affected by the severe flooding caused by Cyclone Remal over the past few days.

Residents are encouraged to remain calm and cooperate with rescue teams and volunteers.

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh conveyed this message during an inspection of the flood-impacted areas at Ima Market, Imphal, which is renowned as Asia's oldest women's market.

Accompanied by cabinet colleagues and MLAs, Singh's visit on Thursday night underscored the government's active response to the crisis.

The flooding has significantly impacted Ima Market, submerging goods worth crores of rupees and prompting distress among vendors.

On Thursday, the Lukmai Selup, a prominent market women’s organization, demanded compensation for the losses incurred as floodwaters submerged the ground floor of all shops.

Many major shops in Imphal city are now under waist-deep water.

Following his inspection, Chief Minister Singh convened a high-level meeting with Ministers, MLAs, the chief secretary, security officials, and department heads to review the flood situation and assess ongoing relief efforts.

This meeting aimed to streamline the provision of aid and assistance to affected families, as confirmed in a post on Singh's social media.

An official statement emphasized the importance of societal cooperation and reassured that all possible measures are being taken to control the flooding.
