Manipur Governor urges NCC to train internally displaced youths amidst ongoing crisis

Imphal: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey advised Maj Gen Gagan Deep, Additional Director General (ADG) of the NCC North Eastern Region, to identify and train potential candidates from Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) residing in relief camps across the state.

The recommendation was made during a meeting at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, where the ADG updated the Governor on the ongoing NCC activities in Manipur.

Maj Gen Gagan Deep briefed the Governor on the challenges faced by the NCC in Manipur, including security issues, floods, and incessant rains. Despite these obstacles, the NCC Group Imphal is conducting training for 7,200 cadets across 16 districts.

The ADG also highlighted two key initiatives of the NCC Directorate North Eastern Region – ‘LAI HARA’ and ‘YUVA BHAGIDARI’ – which aim to empower NCC cadets.

During the discussion, the plan to establish the NCC Training and Youth Academy at Imphal was brought up, with the Governor assuring her support for the initiative.

Governor Uikey emphasized the importance of training candidates from the various relief camps to contribute to nation-building and foster a sense of patriotism among the displaced youths.

The ADG assured the Governor of the NCC’s commitment to providing quality training and inculcating sound values among the cadets. With around 60,000 people currently residing in relief camps due to communal violence, the involvement of youths in NCC-like drills and parades at these camps is seen as a positive step towards their development and integration.
