Manipur Governor graces 4th State-Level Barak Festival 2025 in Senapati
Imphal: The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Saturday graced the 4th State-Level Barak Festival 2025 held at Zeilipou in Senapati district, showcasing the traditions and cultural expressions of different ethnic groups and reflecting the region’s rich diversity and vibrancy. Manipur is home to 34 different communities.
As part of the event, the Governor also unveiled the 4th State-Level Barak Festival 2025 monolith and witnessed traditional stone-pulling, displays of traditional cuisines, and the customary blowing of the horn.
Held under the theme ‘Heritage in Harmony’, the festival symbolised shared identity, unity, and the enduring bond between communities and the Barak River.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that Tourist Circuit Development projects worth approximately Rs 8.46 crore, supported by the North Eastern Council, are underway in several villages to strengthen tourism infrastructure and improve local livelihoods.
He added that the Barak Festival would serve as a beacon to the world by highlighting the river’s profound cultural, ecological, and economic significance.
Losii Dikho, MLA; NPO President; senior officers of the civil administration, police, and the Assam Rifles; and members of local communities attended the function.
Earlier, the Governor, accompanied by the First Lady, visited various morungs set up at the venue, which highlighted Senapati’s rich natural landscapes, cultural diversity, and immense tourism potential. The Barak Festival plays a vital role in showcasing local traditions while promoting sustainable tourism and economic growth. The festival concludes on December 14.
