Manipur: G-5 linked cadre arrested in fuel station bomb attack case
Imphal: The central security forces and Manipur Police commandos arrested an underground cadre alleged to have links with the Group of Five (G-5), an alliance of five proscribed outfits, in a separate operation on Monday.
The arrestee is accused of being involved in an explosion caused by a bomb attack at a fuel station in Moirang Thana Leikai in Bishnupur district of the state, officials reported on Tuesday.
Hijam Manichandra Singh (35), a resident of Waikhong Chingdong Leikai in Kakching district, was arrested from his hideout located at Komnao Makha Leikai area under Waikhong police station in Kakching district. Police said that Singh is an active cadre of the proscribed Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL), an alliance partner of the five underground groups collectively known as G-5. He was involved in causing an explosion at M/S Elidas Fuel Station at Moirang Thana Leikai in Bishnupur district on the night of January 8, 2026.
The report further stated that following his arrest, other accomplices involved in the crime have been identified, and efforts to arrest them are under way.
The Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity (MPDF) has been on strike, shutting down all petrol pumps in the valley districts and surrounding areas since January 10 in response to the bomb attack at M/S Elidas Fuel Station.
Additionally, the Group of Five (G-5) is an alliance of five proscribed outfits comprising the Kangleipak Communist Party, Kanglei Yawol Kanba Lup, People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK–Progressive), and the United National Liberation Front (Koireng group).
