Imphal: The Group of Five (G-5), an alliance of five proscribed underground outfits, has imposed an indefinite ban on the operation of two oil pumps in Manipur for refusing to provide its annual financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh each.

The G-5, comprising the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Kanglei Yawol Kanba Lup (KYKL), People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak – Progressive (PREPAK-Progressive), and United National Liberation Front – Kopireng (UNLF-Kopireng group), has imposed the ban.

It has been in effect since February 1, 2026, on two oil pumps: Sorojini Oil Pump, Wangbal in Kakching district, and M/S Elidas Fuel Station, Moirang Thana Leikai in Bishnupur district.

A joint statement issued by the finance committees of the five outfits, who claimed responsibility for a bomb blast, stated that annual financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh had been provided to M/S Elidas Fuel Station, but its proprietor openly challenged the revolutionary movement.

As a first warning, a bomb was set off on January 8, 2026, at M/S Elidas Fuel Station.

In response to the indefinite ban, the Manipur Petroleum Dealers' Fraternity (MPDF) has appealed to the G-5 to lift the ban on the oil filling stations immediately.

Even if the two petrol pumps made mistakes, the MPDF, in a statement, requested that the G-5 work out a resolution so the stations can resume normal operations.

The MPDF stated that oil pumps in Manipur have been supporting donations for relief camps, civil society organisations (CSOs), local communities, children’s homes, old age homes, and will continue to do so.

It also said that fuel sales have declined drastically following the violent crisis that erupted on May 3, 2023, due to restrictions on free movement and the inability of Meitei contractors, who previously purchased diesel in bulk, to operate in the hill districts.

Sales have now dropped to less than 50 per cent of the volume sold before May 3, 2023, MPDF added.
