Imphal: Around 200 Myanmar nationals, mostly women and children, have sought refuge in three camps set up in Kasom Khullen Sub-Division of Manipur's Kamjong district bordering Myanmar.

This follows renewed clashes between the Myanmar military and rebel groups along the border from May 13th to 15th.

The Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Kasom Khullen, Thangsing, confirmed this information to reporters on Saturday.

These refugees crossed the border undocumented in the wake of the recent fighting.

The district administration has designated camps in the villages of Wanglee, Namlee, and Kaka to house these refugees. As of May 18th, biometric data collection for the new arrivals is ongoing, with 50 individuals already processed.

SDO Thangsing further clarified that approximately 1,900 Myanmar nationals are currently taking shelter within the Kasom Khullen Sub-Division.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh recently stated that Kamjong district houses a total of 5,457 undocumented Myanmar migrants residing in eight designated camps.
